Computer virus: Insignificant but deadly

COMPUTER VIRUSES                              By Kaarthik

Microorganisms like bacteria and viruses seems to be tiny and insignificant but they are really dangerous. However there are even some good microbes, but these pathogens creates a dreadful impact whenever it infects other organisms inclusive of humans, and conceals the help done by the microbes which are beneficial to us. Apart from the viruses which  affects human beings there are also viruses which affects your gadgets mainly PC's and mobile phone. To get more comprehensive with this topic lets jump deep into the article.

Computer viruses

What are computer viruses:

Same like the coding and computer programing systems these computer viruses are also a sort of coding which is attached on one file and are functioned to spread to its nearby connected devices. Breaking up the privacy policy it snatches the private information of any user's devices. As from the name itself you will get an idea that these computer viruses are not the real virus like what you have studied in biology, as it does the same causes (in computers) like what the real viruses do , so it is called as computer viruses.

Worms, spyware, adware, Trojan horses, Ransomware are of computer viruses family and are called as MALWARE in whole. Apart from minor differences all those malwares are similar to each other. Anyhow their basic function is to steal confidential information from mobile or pc users in order to blackmail people to get money. And these attacks performed by the malware were in general called as cyber attacks or cyber threat. Some of the deadly computer viruses are Mellissa, ILOVEYOU, Slammer, storm ware etc.,..

Hacker

Mellissa:

Mellissa is a computer virus which spreads through emails. If you get a mail like ‘ it’s important' try to be as far away from it. By mistake If you open it you would find a file attached to it. That will be named as ‘LIST.doc'. There will be a spontaneous movement of virus from that file to your computer if you click that. That is why it is always advised not to open files which are obscure to you. In just 4 to 5 days this malware had spreaded more than 1000 computer, fortunately nothing big did not happen to those unlucky computers.

ILOVEYOU:

Same like Mellissa, this malware also spreads through email. But this had invaded around 45 million computers just within 2 days, which is really traumatising. Due to this there was a loss of 10 billion dollars all over the world. And this comes with a document attached to it which will be named as LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT . After the invasion of this malware , you will notice that all your files which you have stored in your pc would have been overwritten as ILOVEYOU, and this signifies you that your pc was hacked by that malware.

SQL Slammer:

This  malware comes under the worm family which had lead to chaos  all over the world on 25th January 2003.  On this day network broke out and many weren't able to connect their phones to internet because of this malware. And this had  affected about 75000 computers within just 10 minutes. Unlike those viruses this worm doesn't spread through email. This worm targets SQL server where the Microsoft stores its data and information. To achieve this it sends a specially optimised piece of code same as like a request to the server and from there it spreads to other computers.

Antiviruses:

However if there is a problem there should be solution for that. Similar like the antibodies in humans, there are also certain antivirus system to curb out the problem caused by the malwares. There are many antivirus system which protect your computers and you can install any one of them. Even if we have antivirus in our pc still there is a government department  in most of the countries which verifies network system time to time in order to check the arrival of such malwares. Cyber security is such a department in India which works under the government.

Cyber security

1.              1. Never open if you receive any unknown               emails as  there is more possibility for it to           be as a malware.

2.               2. Never share your personal confidential                information like bank details, passwords              via email or WhatsApp or any other. As                 this avoids you from being cheated from               hackers.

            3.  Make sure that your system is protected                by an antivirus.
